All 917 NYC traffic cameras

New York City's Department of Transportation runs 917 public street cameras. This is the whole list, borough by borough — every one with a live view, its exact coordinates and the cameras nearest to it. Bilbo Data points computer vision at this network and counts what passes: cars, trucks, buses, motorcycles. No faces, no plates.

The expressways and parkways are watched end to end, so it is often more useful to follow a corridor than a borough.

What Bilbo Data does with them

Every camera in this network is already public — the pictures are there whether anyone looks or not. What has never existed is the aggregate: how many vehicles actually move through a given intersection, hour by hour, in a form anyone can download. That is the open dataset we publish. The reasoning behind it is on the about page.
